November is National Healthy Skin Month in the United States and all month long, you are encouraged to learn more about how your skin functions and how you can keep it healthy. National Healthy Skin Month started to raise awareness of keeping skin healthy year-long and self-care is critical. Estheticians see skin as a priority and while they do what they can to help people with various issues, self-care and having a regimen is important. You have an active role in identifying potential health and skin issues. This month is the perfect time to utilize some of these tips to pay closer attention to your own skin care.

Tip 1: Hydrate

Hydration is one of the most important things you can do for your skin. In addition to healthier skin, you’ll energize your muscles, reduce your stress, and see all sorts of other benefits. Increase your water intake this month and see the results for yourself.

Tip 2: Use Lukewarm Water

As the temperatures get colder, it feels good to use hot water to bathe, shower, or wash your face. However, hot water can really dry your skin out. Instead, use lukewarm water throughout the day and moisturize after washing your skin.

Tip 3: Wash Twice A Day

You brush your teeth at least twice a day, so you should wash your face twice a day as well. Dirt, dead skin, makeup, and other things can clog pores and cause acne. Washing your face in the morning and at night can remove impurities and aid your skin’s health.

Tip 4: Moisturize Lips

After you wash your face, you might use a moisturizer on your skin. You probably don’t put that on your lips, but your lips dry out easily during the winter months. Instead of waiting for them to dry out and crack, use a lip balm with SPF protection after you wash your face and re-apply it throughout the day.

Tip 5: Perform Self-Exams

Look your skin over and examine your moles at least once a year. You should know what they look like, so you can notice changes if they occur. Bring them up with your esthetician so they can take a look at them and keep an eye on them as well.

Tip 6: Find Ways To Relax

Stress can cause skin problems like wrinkles and acne. You should make time to relax through stretching, meditation, or in other ways so you can improve the condition of your skin. Even a 10-15 minute break in the middle of the day can make a difference in the way you look.
