Often, we have patients that are worried that their program isn’t going to work. They have tried so many times to lose weight on their own and the weight always seems to always come back. Part of the problem is that they are trying to lose weight it on their own. Whenever you are trying to lose weight, you need to have a proper support system.

Accountability can make a huge difference when it comes to losing weight. While relying on your doctor is important during the medical weight loss process, your doctor isn’t going to always be there when you need her. You need to have some people to help you stay accountable.

Talk With Your Family

It can be difficult when you are on a diet and everyone else in your family is eating the food that you normally eat. Maybe it’s time to make a change to your family’s diet. We believe in educating our patients about how to eat and live healthier; we want you to pass this education on to your family. Sit down with your family and explain that everyone will be eating healthier. Explain your goals and why these changes need to be made. If your family is there to support you, you will be much more likely to succeed.

Find a Fitness Buddy or Take a Class

Try to find someone who you feel comfortable working out with. Work towards a goal together. Sign up for an exercise class or race together. Find an activity that you both enjoy doing. If you don’t like running, try something else. There are so many forms of exercise such as swimming, biking, kickboxing, weight lifting, pilates, yoga, dancing, or even team sports. Exercising with others can be really enjoyable. Don’t feel ashamed if you are taking a class and you are not at the same fitness level as others in the class. As time goes on, you will get better with practice.

Use Technology

Many of our patients stay connected with our doctor through our online weight loss program. However, there are many ways that technology can help you keep track of your goals and your meal planning. Your smartphone can help you stay accountable. There are a number of fitness apps available to help motivate you and keep yourself accountable. Keeping careful track of your weight loss can help you see how you are improving over time, so you can celebrate the small accomplishments that you have made.

Once you have a strong support system, you are much more likely to succeed. If people know that you are going through a medical weight loss program, they will be much more likely to make sure that you feel supported throughout your journey. When you are seriously struggling, be sure to talk to your doctor. Your doctor should be supporting you at all times and you should feel comfortable discussing your struggles so that your weight loss program can be improved.
