6 Summer Skincare Tips From Your Esthetician

Listen To Your Esthetician For Skincare Advice

As we emerge into the hottest months of the year, it’s essential to adjust your skincare routine accordingly. Depending on where you live, you might experience drier climates or high humidity. And let’s not forget about sunshine, which can have a lasting impact on the health of your skin. Here are six skincare tips from an experienced esthetician to help you care for your skin amidst the sun and heat.

Tip 1: Hydrate The Skin

Just as your body needs to be hydrated throughout the year, your skin needs hydration as well—especially when it’s hot and dry outside. Use moisturizers to refresh your skin on a daily basis. Hydrate after showering, spending time at the pool, or after a day at the beach. Use the hydration techniques whenever your skin feels dry or multiple times a day to proactively fight dry skin.

Tip 2: Get Clearer Skin With Exfoliation

Exfoliating removes dead, dry skin so that new, healthy skin can take its place. Regular exfoliation can help fight against acne, scarring, ingrown hairs, and plenty more.  Opt for a dry brush, vibrating face brush, or exfoliating scrub. When you exfoliate in the morning, makeup will last longer and you can apply sunscreen to protect your fresh skin.

Tip 3: Drink Water

Water is essential to the body and internal dehydration can show on the skin. Higher temperatures mean you’ll dehydrate faster and you’ll have to drink more to keep up with what you lose. Hydration does wonders for your skin, and can even help reduce the appearance of fine lines, dark under eye circles, and dry patches.

Tip 4: Soothe Skin After Too Much Exposure

Most people have suffered the consequences where they forgot to put on sunscreen, or didn’t reapply in time.  If you notice a pink color or tenderness in your skin, apply cooling balms and soothing botanicals to reduce the chances of peeling. You can also reduce the overall discomfort and inflammation to your skin.

Tip 5: Sunscreen is Your New Best Friend

Your best course of action against the sun, (besides completely avoiding it, and who wants to do that?!) is to apply sunscreen. Not only should you wear it for daily activities, but you should re-apply it frequently when you are outside for a long period of time. If you can’t stay out of the sun, using sunglasses, hats, and lightweight clothing to shield against the rays are your second best bet.

Tip 6: Visit Professionals

The good news? If you have sun damage on your skin, either from this summer or from past years, it can be treated. Sunlight is one of the best things about summertime, but it can wreak havoc on your skin without taking the necessary precautions. If you want to fix existing damage or prevent future damage this summer, your local esthetician can help.
