We wanted to create something unique. Something that has never been done before. We wanted to give patients that cannot travel to Athena the same individualized attention by myself and my staff to meet their needs.
The program begins by collecting an extensive medical history – just like when you are at my office. The education is done by videos where I present details on nutrition, exercise, and behavior modification. Each patient will receive a customized program designed by me specific to their needs and medical conditions. Just as it is in my clinic, this is not a one size fits all program.
The online patients will work with Athena through the MyFitnessPal app. We will be monitoring our patients’ caloric intake, activity, and weights and interacting at least weekly with recommendations for success and giving the accountability that all of us need to reach our goals. They will also receive weekly emails and videos from me with tips and education. Our online patients have a direct line of communication to the staff and their doctor.
One question I have been asked is if I can provide prescriptions for appetite suppressants to my online patients. I can only provide prescriptions for patients that I see in the office at Athena Wellness Center and can only prescribe these types of medication in the state of Texas. I am happy to speak to any patient’s primary care physician and give recommendations on what medication I think would help their program. If I have an online patient that lives out of state who would like to see me at Athena for prescriptions, I will need to see that patient in the office at least every 90 days, and he or she would have to be actively participating in the online program. I must have a physical doctor-patient relationship with any patient I prescribed a medication to.
The online program works as a subscription plan. Patients will pay a one-time setup fee for their program education and customized weight loss plan and then a monthly subscription fee through PayPal on our website. The setup fee will be $179, but we are offering it the first month of our launch at $59. The monthly subscription will be $59.95 a month, but again we are discounting this for patients that join us during our first month to just $29.95 a month for the lifetime of their program.
Some of you that see me in the clinic have asked if you can participate for extra accountability. My answer is absolutely! There is no setup fee for you and the monthly cost will run $39.95 a month. We are offering it this month at $19.95 per month for our current weight loss patients for as long as you would like to participate. You simply cancel your subscription on PayPal when you no longer want to be part of the online program. Just let us know if you are interested.
